My Favourite Natural Skincare Brand (and it won't break the bank!)
I love, love beauty products; all the pretty packaging and promises of incredible skin, hair and nails I’m a complete sucker for. I have spent a small fortune over the years and tried so many different brands I can’t remember them all. In my now jobless state, it’s something I’ve realised I need to cut my spending on (genuine sob). Also, throughout pregnancy and now whilst I’m breastfeeding, a focus on natural products has become more of an issue for me; I don’t want to be putting lots of unnecessary chemicals into my body and therefore potentially into my baby.
Plus, the big one whilst I was pregnant, I didn’t want stretch marks! At the very least, I’d wanted to know I tried my hardest to prevent/limit them. (And yes I’m well aware there’s no miracle cure and so much depends on the luck of your genes and skin type.)
So, I’d been keeping my eyes peeled for a skincare brand that wasn’t a) too expensive and b) is natural. And what did I discover? Drumroll please… the wonderful Moogoo skincare range! I first discovered Moogoo on Instagram through the blog of an incredibly brave cancer sufferer who used Moogoo to help her sensitive skin from the damaging effects of chemotherapy. I thought if it was gentle enough to use in such circumstances, it must also be good for pregnancy and beyond. Having delved a bit further and read all the blurb plus having seen their very reasonable price tag, I was sold.
To give you the lowdown, Moogoo is an Australian company with a range of natural yet effective products. The original hero product, their ‘Udder Cream’ was borne from the founder seeing his mother using a cream for her skin condition made for cows to keep their udders soft and supple. He then adapted this thick, greasy cream for human use and the beginnings of an extensive Moogoo range was created. Moogoo now have a whole host of products with a particular focus on skin complaints such as eczema, psoriasis, acne and rosacea.
You can research on their website and find out what products to order for your skin type. I used their Full Cream Moisturiser throughout pregnancy based largely on the delicious sounding ingredients – a base of sweet almond oil, along with raw coconut oil, pasteurised honey and apple cider vinegar (yep I’m a sucker for products!). But incredibly, I did not get any stretch marks and I went to 41 weeks! I’m also a fan of the Milk Wash, an all over body and face cleanser; it’s gently foamy and creamy but doesn’t leave my skin all dry and tight.
But the absolute winners for me are their baby range! And yes they are a lot more expensive than your average Johnson & Johnson (much to Andy’s disapproval!) but I couldn’t resist the sweet sounding Mini Moo Bubbly Wash which Nella has used every day since she was born. It’s really gentle with no nasties which was exactly what I wanted for her. I also swear by their nappy balm which we’ve used and cleared up any hint of nappy rash Nella has had. Plus it lasts for ages; we’ve only used one full bottle in 9 months. Their Mudder Udder Balm is great for nips that have been through the wringer from breastfeeding and it’s edible so you don’t have to wipe off between feeds.
